On March 11th, the official National Football League league year for 2026 began, and many notable players have already joined their new teams—well, almost everybody.
On March 10th, 2026, around 7 p.m., news broke that newly acquired Baltimore Ravens pass rusher Maxx Crosby failed his physical due to knee problems from the previous season. After hearing this news, the Ravens backed out of the Crosby trade, giving the Ravens their two first-round picks back and putting the Las Vegas Raiders in a difficult situation.
After trading Crosby, the Raiders had gained a lot of salary cap space. With the belief that the trade was finalized, they signed seven free agents. However, two days later, when the Raiders received the call that the Ravens did not want Crosby, they released a statement saying they would still keep all of those signings. As a result, the Raiders are now in one of the most interesting positions in the league, sitting well over the salary cap.
Meanwhile, for the Ravens, they immediately signed star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson after backing out of the Crosby deal. Multiple executives and analysts criticized the Ravens, saying they should be punished for the way they handled the situation. Some suggested the Ravens could lose their second-round picks for both this year and next year.
In other free agency news, the Minnesota Vikings signed former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray to a one-year, $1 million deal, with the Cardinals still paying $37 million of Murray’s contract.
Jaquan Brisker signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, while C. J. Gardner-Johnson signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills. All-Pro safety Kevin Byard signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, and the New York Jets signed cornerback Nahshon Wright.
The Chicago Bears have lost four key players from their defensive secondary last season. However, general manager Ryan Poles has already started signing replacements. The Bears signed Seattle Seahawks All-Pro safety Coby Bryant to a three-year, $40 million deal. They also signed former Cleveland Browns linebacker Devin Bush to a three-year, $30 million contract.
In other news, the Indianapolis Colts agreed to a contract with Daniel Jones, signing him to a two-year, $88 million deal.
Travis Etienne signed a four-year, $52 million contract with the New Orleans Saints. This deal sparked rumors about a possible trade or release involving star running back Alvin Kamara. Kamara later shut down those rumors online, saying he would retire if he were traded from the team.
Dre Greenlaw returned to the San Francisco 49ers on a one-year, $7.5 million deal.
The Philadelphia Eagles also made a move by signing Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl champion cornerback Riq Woolen to a one-year deal, although the contract details are still unknown.
Finally, the Raiders made Tyler Linderbaum the highest-paid center in NFL history, signing him to a three-year, $81 million deal with $60 million fully guaranteed.
This wraps up the most notable parts of free agency, if any other trades happen or any news comes out. We will be covering those stories and more!
