The Licking Heights Lady Hornets kicked off their 2026 softball season with a dominant defensive performance, securing a 2-0 shutout victory over the Buckeye Valley Barons. The game was headlined by a masterful outing from pitcher Natalie Mahoney, who completely stifled the Barons' lineup by racking up 14 strikeouts. Her command in the circle set the tone for the season opener, demonstrating the "strong start" the team has been preparing for in their new campaign.
Offensively, the Hornets capitalized on key moments to provide Mahoney with the necessary run support. They first broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a Buckeye Valley error to jump ahead 1-0. Insurance arrived shortly after in the fifth inning when Kelsey Carter launched a solo home run, effectively sealing the victory for the Lady Hornets. This win marks a promising beginning for the 2026 season, blending high-caliber pitching with opportunistic hitting to establish early momentum for the program.
