Licking Heights school district has demonstrated effective communication between staff and military families. Mrs. Wilson has been the bridge between the school and these families, often providing them with support and ensuring they know that their service and time given to the country will not be forgotten.

Apart from Mrs. Wilson, a lot of teachers and students have shown their respect for these families in different ways. For example: the band and choir had an amazing performance with the choir singing “Thank You Soldier” showing their respect and appreciation to the veterans. The band had an amazing performance with them playing the “Armed Forces” and “March America”. Other students came and showed their respect and gratitude, showing up to support these veterans, by coming early and setting up the event.

Licking Heights also honors the Veterans and current enlisted members of the military by creating an honor wall. Dog tags were put on the wall as a way to show their gratitude for their students who were or are still in the military. This shows that no matter where you are, you'll always be remembered as a Hornet.

Another way we honor veterans is by giving them a challenge coin, which varies in design. This is seen as a way to extend gratitude to people, both military and civilian, who choose to serve their country, both at home and overseas. They say “you are appreciated and thanks for what you do”.

Our school also had a bunch of military supplies that were brought to the school to show the students the different military equipment that was used and lost during the time of war.

Now, some people, including myself, don’t know what it feels like to live with military parents, so today I will be interviewing a fellow classmate, Michael Kadelek, on what it's like to not only have one, but 2 military parents.Firstly, we asked him what it was like living with military parents. He said it was perfect and his parents were always 15 minutes early to everything, which really helped him a lot growing up. Then, we asked Michael if he felt like his parents were stricter than others. His reply was “I did not feel like his parents were stricter than other parents. I listened and felt like their choices in parenting were right for me”. Lastly, we asked him if he ever plans on going to the military and why or why not. His response was “No, because that's not the field I wanna do. I want to go into sports journalism or photography. However, I respect my parents for their job position.”
